We convert to WebP in our own publishing pipeline because the file-size win is real — typically meaningfully smaller than the same-quality JPG. Going the other way (WebP → JPG) is what most visitors actually want, because they got a .webp they can't open in an older app. Honest limit: converting a lossy WebP to JPG won't restore detail the WebP already discarded — you're re-saving, not upscaling. For animated WebP, treat it like a short video, not a still.
